FACTS

1. Women do not ejaculate during sexual intercourse. Probably, the lubrication that accompanies the excitement stage is mistaken for discharge.

2. Simultaneous orgasms are not a compulsion.

3. Women also experience nocturnal orgasms.

4. Nocturnal emissions (wet dreams) are not a sign of sexual disorder. They are part of normal sexual process.

5. Not true. On the contrary the venereal disease sufferer will transmit the disease.

6. Even when a person indulges in masturbation frequently, the penis never shrinks and becomes small. Once any part or organ of the human body has attained its maximum size, it will never become small unless it is partially or fully cut off surgically or accidentally.

7. Not true. Whatever nutrition is good for other body parts is also good for sex organs.

8. Not true. Masturbation is a normal physiological activity.

9. Sterilisation (vasectomy in males and tubectomy in females) does not reduce the desire and performance. In fact, by removing the fear of pregnancy, sex can be more relished.

10. Not true. Sexual urge is equal in both the sexes.

11. Anal sex may be practiced by heterosexuals also.

12. A man has an erection of the penis just by desiring it. The entire physiological sexual response should be gone through before an erection occurs.

13. The masculinity of a person is not judged by the ability to get an erection. There are other criteria.

14. Menopause is not the end of a woman’s sexual life. It is just the end of her reproduction only.

15. Talking to youngsters on sex or imparting sex education will not lead to promiscuity. Even without sex education, people indulge in promiscuity. In fact, more married people have promiscuous relations than young ones. Educating the young on sex and sexual behaviour helps them to develop a healthy and positive attitude towards sexuality. More importantly, better interpersonal relationship will help lead a more harmonious marital and family life.

16. The majority of women can’t orgasm without intercourse alone, regardless of how big or large the penis is, because it does not provide sufficient stimulation to the clitoris. Many couples struggle needlessly, believing that one of them is doing something wrong if they are not able to achieve this. Using positions that stimulate the clitoris during intercourse may work for some. You can also stimulate the clitoris with a finger or a vibrator during intercourse or give your woman her satisfaction by pleasuring her orally or manually.

17. The hymen is not a test of virginity. Bleeding usually occurs due to rupture of the hymen in a virgin. However, the hymen may be absent congenitally or may be ruptured during sporting activities, vigorous exercises or with the use of tampons. So, a virgin may not necessarily bleed during her first sexual intercourse.

18. Menstrual material is sterile and sex during menstruation is absolutely safe, if both partners so desire. In fact, many couples find sex more enjoyable during this time as there is no fear of a possible pregnancy and enhanced pleasurable sensations promoted by moist vagina.

19. Girls can and often become pregnant the first time they have intercourse.

20. Although a woman may not menstruate when breast feeding, she can still become pregnant.

21. While a female is less likely to get pregnant during certain periods of her menstrual cycle, there is no “absolutely” safe period. There is always a chance she will get pregnant.

22. Withdrawal is not effective way to prevent pregnancy. Even before ejaculation as the penis leaks semen, that contains thousands of sperms.

23. Sex play and sexual dreams with friends of either gender is common during preadolescence and early adolescent years. Such experiences should not be interpreted as proof of any long term, adult sexual orientation.

24. Having nocturnal orgasms is normal, healthy, natural and nothing to worry about.

25. Most penises when erect are of more or less the same size. A large penis is not necessarily essential to sexually satisfy the female partner. Only, outer 2 inches of vagina is sensitive to touch, and so a penis of even this length is enough for stimulation of the female partner. Penis need not to be absolutely straight when erect.

Other Myths and Facts

Women can't get pregnant if a man pulls out
v  The “pull-out” method, also known as the rhythm method, is potentially the worst possible form of birth control. Men do not always know when ejaculatory fluid begins to seep out -- and even ahead of a perceptible orgasm, pre-ejaculate (which includes sperm) is released and is enough to get a woman pregnant. In fact, one in five couples who use this method as their only form of birth control over the course of a year will end up pregnant.

Fantasizing about someone else is a bad thing
v  A large part of the sexual experience starts with your brain, not your body, and sometimes your brain can wander. If you are committed to your lady, and your relationship is in a good place, it’s OK to think about Julia or Aishu every now and then.

Premature ejaculation only affects young men
v  Some men do find that premature ejaculation begins at the onset of sexual maturity, but plenty of men also find it to be an issue later in life. In fact, premature ejaculation affects 30% of men at sometime in their lives.

v  Often, early ejaculation in men who are in their 30s or older is a co-symptom of Erectile dysfunction or fatigue, poor cardiovascular conditioning, depression, anxiety, or neurological symptoms.

Oral sex is safer than other methods of sex
v  From teenagers, oral sex seems to have the stigma of a “free pass” as far as sexual relationships go. Yes, it does count as sex, and yes, you can get a sexually transmitted disease from oral sex. There is still an exchange of fluids where diseases can enter your body through sores or small cuts in your mouth and throat.

Certain foods can put you in the mood
v  Named for the Greek goddess of sensuality and love, aphrodisiacs are said to put you in the mood. While oysters, dark chocolate, strawberries might make you feel l’amour, there is no scientific evidence to support the validity of aphrodisiacs. However, while there is no science to foods and/or herbs causing arousal, a certain food can trigger an erotic memory or desire in your own mind -- so in a sense, we all have our own aphrodisiacs.

Size matters
v  Size is not a barometer for manhood. True sexual enthusiasm far outweighs any gifted parts. And contrary to another popular myth, the size of your member has nothing to do with the size of your hands or feet.

Viagra is the answer?
v  While many people believe Viagra is the best or only treatment for men with erectile dysfunction, the truth is that for many men these drugs are not a viable option or they simply are not effective. Viagra is only a temporary fix to a problem that may have other underlying health causes that should be addressed by a qualified physician. In addition, many men with health conditions, including hypertension and diabetes, cannot take oral prescriptions due to serious potential side effects or contraindications with other medications. For men who cannot use Viagra, there are a number of other options including herbal medicines and Alternative medicines helps to cure Erectile dysfunctions.

After a certain age, sex is no longer important
v  Sex is an important aspect of physical and emotional health and well-being for adults of all ages, even those in their golden years. While some people believe that a decrease in libido is a natural part of aging, a loss of sexual desire can be related to a number of other factors including hormone deficiencies, depression, anxiety disorders, side effects of medication, changes to a relationship, communication barriers, or loss of a spouse or partner.

Men have more sexual urges than women
v  Though many men would have you believe they’re ready to go 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the truth is that men experience daily fluctuations in libido, as do women. A man’s readiness to hop in the sack can be impacted by many of the same factors that impact a woman’s level of desire, including diet, sleep, health, stress, medical conditions, self-confidence, and relationship disharmony

Great sex comes naturally

v  The physical chemistry you see on TV and in the movies suggests that when two lovers meet, sparks fly and mind-blowing sex naturally follows. In the real world, it’s not always that easy. The human body doesn’t come with an instruction manual. The “tricks of the trade” that pleased a former partner do not always translate with someone new. Good communication is the key to good sex, as is a willingness to be open to trying new techniques and positions to find out what each partner finds pleasurable. It can be a little awkward at first to over communicate during sex, but think about the outcome: a partner who knows how to do it right every time.

Some Common Misconceptions about Sex

  • The penis can become erect at very early stage, especially in a young man. This does not mean that he is necessarily ready the for intercourse and he may start too soon - before his partner feels ready. She may become anxious as she feels she is keeping him waiting.
  • Vaginal lubrication may remain hidden especially in lying down positions. Both partners may assume she is not responding, when in fact she is. Penis gives a more obvious signal which the vagina may not.
  • Arousal comes in waves in both the man and the woman. This is normal. The decline doesn't mean that something is wrong.
  • Premature ejaculation (coming too soon, before the partner is ready) is normal in young men, particularly when very much aroused. Control comes with learning and practice.
  • Many women may not have orgasm but are fully responsive. This doesn’t mean that they are frigid.
  • Early sexual relationships may not have orgasms in women. Partners need not worry. Anxiety further inhibits it.
  • The husband snoring one minute after ejaculating can produce resentment if the wife is still feeling the need for intimacy. The men have their refractory period (time during which sexual arousal is difficult) very fast. Woman need not feel upset (as if being used as a sleeping pill) - you can wake up your husband sometimes and let him know.
